Asbestos Surveys

Summary

Asbestos is often referred to as the 'Hidden Killer' due to the fact that the material has been used in many materials and different applications.

Initially the problems were associated with people producing and installing asbestos materials. Since the use of asbestos containing materials has been banned in this country the problem now lies with those personnel who may disturb any asbestos materials which are currently located in the workplace. Obviously maintenance personnel, subcontractors and even employees can often be exposed to asbestos without being aware of its presence.

New Government legislation in the form of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, imposes a duty to identify asbestos in commercial buildings and to adopt procedures to manage the situation effectively.

Our surveyors are qualified to the *P402* standard which is the standard required by the Health & Safety Executive. We can carryout surveys at the smallest of residential properties to the largest factories and warehouse complexes.

We can perform various types of asbestos surveys, specifically tailored to your requirements, and in accordance with the guidance produced by the Health & Safety Executive (MDHS 100).

There are three types of survey which can be undertaken;,

Type 1 survey involves visual inspection of all materials, and is sufficient to presume or strongly presume the existence of asbestos containing materials. Type 2 survey involves the sampling of suspect materials, and is sufficient to confirm the presence of asbestos. We then have these materials tested at a UKAS accredited laboratory. Type 3 survey involves gaining access to all known parts, including those not normally accessible (e.g. service ducts, under floor spaces, wall cavities). This type of survey would be suitable to be carried out prior to any demolition or major refurbishment works. Our reports detail all suspected asbestos containing materials and evidence to show their content in an updateable register that can be easily read and reproduced to give awareness to all employees and contractors.
