Management of Asbestos in Buildings


Aims and objectives of this course:

To provide an overview and practical guidance using current HSE guidance and ACOP's to enable the delegate to minimise the risks to employees and occupants from asbestos containing materials within buildings. On completion of the course, delegates should be able to understand the procedures to comply with The Control of Asbestos Regulations with particular reference to commissioning surveys, understanding risk assessments to manage asbestos in buildings.

  1. Asbestos, the historical use's, types and characteristics
  2. Overview of the health effects of exposure
  3. Types, risks and locations of ACM's in buildings
  4. Legislative requirements on building owners and employers;
    • The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006
    • The Duty to Manage Regulation 4 ACOP L127
    • Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995
    • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
    • The Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005
    • Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007
  5. Requirements on Domestic building owners
  6. Developing an asbestos management strategy
  7. Planning surveys
  8. HSG264 – Guide to Asbestos Surveys
  9. The Survey Report
  10. Management options for control of risks

Assessment:
Multiple choice questionnaire upon completion of the course.

The successful completion of the above will lead to the issue of 'The Certificate in Management of Asbestos in Buildings.'
